Please be aware that data contained in these files may differ from those data which are displayed on the station pages on the NRFA website. The WINFAP-FEH files are updated when a significant number of changes have been applied to the dataset. Find out when new files are available by subscribing to our newsletter and following us on Twitter.

There are separate files for each data type:

Catchment descriptors are based on those supplied for WINFAP-FEH, with amendments by HiFlows-UK detailed in the version notes.

Version Information

Released in May 2016, the current files provided for download relate to WINFAP-FEH files version 4.1 and are published as an amendment to Version 4. The changes made in this version affect the flow data at stations categorised as ‘POT excluded’ only. There are no other changes to the data files since Version 4. For the most recent list of major changes (e.g. to flow data and station suitability) users should refer to the release note for Version 4.

Version 4 of the WINFAP-FEH files represent the first major update to the dataset under the NRFA. A large number of changes has been made from version 3.3.4 and the dataset includes data up to 30 September 2014 (end of water year 2013/2014). Stations in Scotland were not updated in version 4.

Extracting the zipped files

All data download files are zipped and will require extraction. When you extract the zipped files, we suggest you preserve the file paths (ensure the "Use folder names" option is ticked in Winzip). The .zip files then extract into three folders:

  • Not suitable for QMED or Pooling
  • Suitable for QMED
  • Suitable for Pooling

These three folders are based on the Indicative Suitability of each station. Users may wish to create other folders - e.g. for all stations or station from both the 'OK for QMED' and 'OK for pooling' folders.

Using the files in WINFAP 4

You will need to tell WINFAP 4 where to find the new files. To do this, run WINFAP 4:

  1. Close any existing project file
  2. Open a new project file
  3. Go to Options > Project file options > Load Options
  4. Browse to the new folder 'PeakFlow_v#.#' and click 'select' (Note that WINFAP 4 accesses all sub-folder files)

Using the files in WINFAP-FEH 3

You will need to tell WINFAP-FEH 3 where to find the new files. To do this, run WINFAP-FEH 3:

  1. Close any existing project file
  2. Open a new project file
  3. Go to Options > Project file options > Load Options
  4. Browse to the new folder 'OK for pooling' (or as appropriate) and click 'select'
