Daily flow data for the 2024/2025 water year are now available to download from the National River Flow Archive (NRFA) for most gauging stations across the UK. All active stations have been updated with quality-controlled daily mean flow data up to 30 September 2025.
Daily flow data are submitted annually to the NRFA by the UK Measuring Authorities. Submissions typically take place during the spring following the end of the water year. Once received, the data undergo a rigorous quality assurance process before being incorporated into the national archive.
This annual update includes several new flow records, highlighted on the map below:
- New record low flows (minimum daily flows) are shown in red.
- New record high flows (maximum daily flows) are shown in blue.
Hydrological Conditions During 2024/2025
Hydrological conditions were generally healthy following winter 2024/2025. However, rainfall declined sharply during spring, with only 43% of average rainfall in March and 56% in April, leading to a rapid reduction in river flows.
As a result, many rivers transitioned from normal or above-normal flow conditions to below-normal levels, with parts of northern Britain experiencing exceptionally low flows. These conditions persisted throughout summer 2025, when rainfall remained below average at 84% of the long-term average.
Upcoming Data Releases
Peak flow data for water year 2024/2025, including the Annual Maximum Series (AMAX) and Peaks Over Threshold (POT) datasets, will be released in the coming week.

Catchment Daily Rainfall Dataset Update
The Catchment Daily Rainfall dataset has also been updated using HadUK-Grid version 1.3.2, extending coverage to 31 December 2025.
