Last week, several members of the NRFA team attended the 4th British Hydrological Society International Symposium, held at Cranfield University on 30th August – 1st September.
Throughout the three day conference we heard from many speakers on a variety of topics including lessons learnt from the 2015/2016 winter flooding, managing flood risk, river restoration, soil hydrology, urban hydrology and water resources management. There was a wide variety of very interesting presentations from academics, consultants and engineers, and it was great to see that NRFA data had been used in many projects.
NRFA staff contributions to the conference included, a presentation by Shaun Harrigan, analysing trends from the updated UK Benchmark Network of NRFA gauging stations (to be unveiled soon). Katie Muchan presented a poster investigating the underestimation of rainfall measurements and Stephen Turner presented a poster outlining the winter 2015/2016 floods in the UK.
At the NRFA stall, delegates were able to learn about the NRFA, sign up to the NRFA newsletter and hear more about the upcoming National Hydrological Monitoring Programme report on the UK winter floods of 2015/2016. If you would like to put your name down to receive a PDF or printed copy of the NHMP report on the UK winter floods of 2015/2016 as soon as it is published, please email nhmp@ceh.ac.uk.
As always, any questions regarding the National River Flow Archive can be directed to our helpdesk at nrfa@ceh.ac.uk or 01491 692599.
