From 1981 to 2010 the National Hydrological Monitoring Programme (NHMP) published an annual review of hydrological events and hydrological conditions within each calendar year. Based on analysis and interpretation of the data holdings of the National River Flow Archive and the National Groundwater Level Archive, these regular reports place the year in its hydrological context, focussing on rainfall, evaporation and soil moisture, river flows, and groundwater levels.
From 1981 to 1995 the annual reviews were featured in the Yearbooks published as part of the Hydrological Data UK series. The Yearbooks brought together the principal datasets relating to river flows, groundwater levels and areal rainfall throughout the UK as well as featuring a comprehensive hydrological review of the year. Also included in the editions for 1986-95 are water quality data for a representative selection of river basins throughout Britain.
The Yearbooks series was discontinued after the 1995 edition and between 1996 and 2010 the annual reviews were published as standalone documents. The 1996 to 2005 versions were originally published as a collection of webpages but later transferred to document format. In 2011 the UK Hydrological Reviews were superseded by the quarterly UK Hydrological Bulletins.
Hard copies of these Yearbooks are available from the National River Flow Archive Office, though a few editions are out of print.
